A while back we decided to camp during Memorial Day weekend. At the time we booked our camp site, we didn't realize it would still be snowing in Tahoe on May 28th...seriously, still snow May 28th?! We originally planned for 2 nights,3 days. As it got closer we chickened out and only went for 1 night, 2 days. 39 degrees sounds cold, but it wasn't so bad and the views were amazing

After the tent was set up and we had food in our bellies, we went for a little nature walk and came across this empty ampitheater. I did a little dance, complete with jazz hands (pictured above) and then coaxed Wes into a game of charades. As the picture below depicts, he wasn't that crazy about the charades and we were soon walking again.

On the shores of Lake Tahoe. We stumbled across some cabins that are part of the State Park system, but formerly owned by "Lucky Baldwin" (I wonder if he is a relative), Pope family, and Heller family. We decided we want a cute little cabin on the lake. Just like the one below.

We walked a little bit more to the pier. The weather looked ominous and nasty and before long it started to snow. For some reason our camp site didn't get bothered with the snow and our tent was perfectly dry when we returned. This picture makes me want to go sailing. I've only sailed on a little (tiny, tiny) catamaran and it was exhilarating. I can only imagine that a sail boat would be that much more fun.

After a suprisingly goodnight's sleep we went for a hike on the Rubicon trail. It is a trail that makes its way around most of Tahoe's Emerald Bay. We took the trail to the lighthouse, pictured above. Wes broke the rules and hoped the chained fence to see what was inside the lighthouse. He was making a mad dash back because he heard children coming down the trail and he didn't want to be a bad example.

We didn't complete the entire trail. We were kind of tired, hungry and really in need of a shower so I made a deal with Wes that we would go back this summer and do the entire hike. It's a deal. We were headed home, but not before we ate the Sno-Flake drive in's famous garlic fries. I still have garlic breath...

I have finally been to somewhere you've traveled. I always love to hear and see your travel blogs and this time, I was able to relate with some of the sites because I've been to Tahoe...once. It is gorgeous there. However, I did not go when it was 39 degrees. That's quite an experience I'm sure. Thanks for sharing. PS Love the shot of Wes making a mad dash for the trail before he's caught!
