Autumn times always makes me crave pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. So...I've made them twice in two weeks. They are delicious and I could probably eat the entire batch by myself before Wes gets home from work. Come on, I do have a little self control...I'll only eat half the batch before he gets home.
Also on the fall time cooking list is Butternut Squash soup. I made it on Monday and it was delish! We ate it too quickly for me to get a picture. If you're looking for a good recipe this is the one I used. Seriously, how can you go wrong with cream cheese?!! Plus, the little bit of cayenne pepper gives it a nice kick.
Happy Fall Time! Halloween is right around the corner and I need to get Dieter a costume. I don't think it will be anything fancy for this year. I'll keep you posted.

book 20 of 25
I should have known I would not like this book when I read on the back cover that it was promoted by Elizabeth Gilbert, the author of Eat, Pray, Love. Just like that Eat, Pray, Love the author had a woe-is-me type of attitude and an extremely foul mouth. I was suprised that I hated the book, because I really did like the movie. This may be the first time I've ever said I like the movie more than the book. Skip this book and head straight to the movie. You're welcome!

one month old
Our little Dieter bug is one month old. I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. He is starting to smiling and it melts mommy and daddy's heart. He loves to be outside. He loves to eat (he's getting to be quite a big boy!). He is so sweet we can't help but kiss his chubby cheeks every waking minute.

waking stretch routine
My friend, Sandi Z, took some pictures of Dieter after he got home from the hospital. More will be posted soon, but I thought this sequence was so great! It is how Dieter wakes up every time and I think he was doing this even in the womb. These were taken at 10 days old and now our little man is one month old. The time is already flying too quickly.
Dieter's photo shoot
Our friend Sandi Zacharias took this pictures of Dieter when he was just 10 days old. She did a great job...I recommend her to anyone that wants photos taken.

book 19 of 25
I can't believe that I just might actually make my goal of reading 25 books this year. After having Dieter, I just didn't know if it was going to be possible. However, while he is eating, I am reading and it seems to work out quite well.
This book is our book club book this month and it is actually pretty good. It is written for the young teenage audience, but I found myself intrigued and wanting to know what would happen next. It is a far out story of a boy who ends up living among the dead in a graveyard due to his parents and sister being killed by a man named Jack. The author has quite the imagination and it makes the book a fun read. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a quick, fun story to read. It doesn't really have anything to do with Halloween, but it is a good story to kind of get you in the mood of ghosts, goblins, ghouls and the like.

we finally got out of the house...Dieter's first road trip
Last Tuesday, we finally got out of the house. Dieter was 2 weeks old and we had stayed in doors for too many days in a row. We decided to go on a little road trip to the coast. Our first stop was in Sonoma. We went to the Vallejo House. Thanks to Tiffany Opp for the Moby Wrap! It was awesome to carry Dieter around like this all day. He snuggled right up in it and fell asleep. Only to wake when it was time to eat! Our next stop was in Petaluma for lunch and ice cream. I'm enjoying all the treats that I wasn't able to eat during my pregnancy. I think I'm enjoying them to much...I need to start laying off all the sugary goodness!
We made our way to Dillion beach where it was freezing cold! Several people gave us odd looks when they saw that we had a tiny infant with us. We really only stayed long enough to get pictures.
Dieter was not having fun at this point...it was just too cold.
Dieter was a great road tripper. He did really well in his car seat until the last little bit of our trip. I think at this point he was cold and hungry. We got all his needs taken care of and then he did great the rest of the way.

book 18 of 25
I started this book a couple of days before Dieter was born. It was a really quick read. I basically finished it while Dieter was under the lights. I was trying to keep my mind occupied. And wouldn't you know it, the chapter I was reading while he was in the hospital was all about parenting. "What Makes a Perfect Parent" was the title of the chapter to be exact. According to the book, if there are a lot of books in the home (whether you read them or not), the child will grow up to be more successful than those that don't have a lot of books in the home. Wes and I are on our way to being perfect parents! The book takes questions that economists don't usually analyze and puts an answer to them. Such as "if drug dealers make so much money, why do they still live with their moms?" If nothing else, this book is entertaining and a little thought provoking.
just a little time in the tanning booth
The first few days of Dieter's life were spent in the hospital or the dr's office (or so it seemed). It may have been rougher on this mom than on Dieter. I was an emotional wreck! He had quite a bad case of jaundice and we ended up at the hospital for light therapy for two nights. The poor little guy had to wear the blinders and he hated every minute of it. We got to take him out every 2 hours for 20 minutes to feed him and then he was back in the "tanning bed".
They only allowed one parent to stay the night, but they were really nice to us on the 2nd night and let Wes stay too. We were the only ones on the light therapy side so there was an extra bed (if that's what you can call the chair we slept in) for Wes to sleep on. Dieter loved having Wes there too. I think this picture is so sweet of Dieter holding on to Daddy's finger. I was so happy when they told us his bilirubin levels had finally come down and we were able to take him home. Each day his coloring is looking better and better.
