On my Soap Box...

Call me silly, but I thought the basic idea of the Women's Movement was to get the same rights as men. Talk of the Nation on NPR had a segment about how sexism is affecting the Presidential Race (AKA how it is affecting Hillary Clinton). I am appalled at how many "feminist" call in to say that women should vote for Hillary because she is a woman. Isn't this the same sort of thing women were fighting against as near as 20 years ago? Men were getting jobs that women were better qualified for just because they were men. Shouldn't equal rights mean equal rights? How about we elect the person that is best suited for the job? I would be one of the first to say that a women should be the President of the USA, if that women were the most qualified. Too bad for Hillary that she is NOT the most qualified. Unfortunatley, at this point I don't know who is the most qualified for President. Who do you think is most qualified and why?

I think Mitt Romney is the most qualified, but poo poo, he didn't make it. I don't like any of them!

Amen Sister. I couldn't agree with you more. I could not handle Hillary as President. I am so sick of hearing about her in the news. Talk about annoying. Sorry, am I sounding too opinionated? It's funny to see your new entry about politics because I just put an entry on my blog pleading with John McCain to select Mitt for V.P. I'm not a huge McCain supporter and I'd feel a lot better about things if Mitt were on his ticket.

Soap Box, Shmope Box! We are all entitled to our opinions here, but before answering the "who is qualified" query, what I'm REALLY interested in is knowing what all of you "What's OPP" blogger fans consider adequate qualifications for President of The United States of America. I mean, if we take away all the hype: YouTube, hairspray, religion, and hormonal tears, maybe we'd find our most qualified candidate is actually Ralph Nader or Ron Paul or...Oprah! Let's start up a dialogue about THAT. (FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!...)

I'm still wishing Mitt was in the running! I feel a little discouraged about the whole thing too! Hope to see you soon!

Honestly, do we as a nation want Hillary Clinton to go down in History as the first female President? I think that spot is reserved for someone of better character, strength, and knowledge. As to the question of who is most qualified, sadly by default, I choose McCain. Hopefully, Mitt can be his V.P.

To Unknownsideeffects: Maybe Ralph Nader or Ron Paul is the best qualified to be the President of USA. In all honesty, I wish there were more than two dominant parties to choose from. The qualifications for the president of this country should be scrutinized as thoroughly as a candidate for CEO of a major corporation (we, the US, are after all a trillion + dollar corporation). What I am looking at now is how a candidate has run his campaign. McCain disgusts me with his managment skills. Less than a year ago he was almost on the out and out because of his mismanagement. Obama actually has run a great campaign with all the checks and balances in place. I haven't looked much at Nader's campaign. I think he is in it more or less to make a point. Enough of my rambling. I'm sure we will have many more discussions on this topic within the next few months. I'm off my soapbox for now!
