weekend getaway...day 1

Wes planned the perfect weekend getaway.  Sacramento was slated to be 108 degrees...so we opted to go to the coast.  Our first stop on Saturday morning was Berkley.  We wanted to give Dieter his first campus tour!  Actually, I had never  been on the Berkley campus (driven past a couple of times) and wanted to see it.
We walked down Telegraph Ave.  just for fun.  There were many signs saying "entering a drug free zone"...Shouldn't every zone be a drug free zone?!
People watching in Berkely is fun!!  See that person in the skirt...not a woman...and how about all those hats?!
We had lunch reservations at the Chez Panisse Cafe.  Steve Jobs frequented this place.
They change their menu daily based on what is in season.  It's a lovely place to dine.  It's the first American restaurant that had the philosophy of serving organic, local foods.
Wes had delicious fried halibut.  I had ranched raised pork sausage (made in house).  For dessert a cherry galette with apricot ice cream.  Yum-my!
Next stop was the Oakland Museum of CA.  It was a fun little stop plus the place was air conditioned.  It was too hot for this pregnant woman in Oakland on Saturday (I'm glad we didn't stay in Sac)
 Wes loves Peace!

The museum had an exhibit on '1968'.  My favorite part was the plastics section!
We checked into our hotel in Emeryville (near Oakland) and then headed up to the hills above the temple for a little hike.  It was a little hike...who knew that I'll I had to do to get Wes to go on a 3 miler or less was to get pregnant!  The views are beautiful and seeing Redwoods on a hiking trail is always amazing.
Then it was time for dinner at Vik's.  It's a great Indian restaurant.  The above picture is Wes's dinner of puffy bread (I can't remember the official name).  It is chuck full of carbs and so not good for me, but it was oh, so delicious!
The view of Berkely from the Bay.
Kite flying at the Bay.  This is a must-do activity some time at this particular spot.

The last stop of the day was watching the sun set at the bay.  We found a great bench  to perch in and take in the scenery.  We were directly across from the Golden Gate Bridge as the sun went down.  The sunset was stunning.  It was the perfect way to end the day.
I think this has become one of my favorite all time spots.
