Nature

Very few activities are as healing to me as a walk in nature. Sure, it may take some major convincing on Mr. Opp's part to get me to go on an 8-9 mile hike, but once I'm partaking of the splendidly fresh air I extremely enjoy it.

This part of the trail looks enchanting in the picture, but it is kind of tricky. To get to the very narrow trail in the foreground, one must pass over the very large boulders in the background. These large boulders are the bridge over the waterfall that drops about 150 to 200 feet. The narrow trail goes on for about 15 feet with a dramatic drop to the left and a mountain that goes straight up on the right. I hold my breath the entire time as if somehow that is going to help me to safety!
The trail finally winds its way down to the north fork of the American River. Stretches of the river are peaceful and some are filled with rapids. I prefer the peaceful sections.
We started our hike later in the day so we didn't quite make it to the river bed. We had to rush to at least make it over the tricky boulders before the sun fell. The last 1/2 mile to the car was walking so very carefully in the dark. It was a little spooky. Today my body hurts in a good feeling sort of way.
