I am a little maybe a lot disappointed today. We can no longer tell children that champions don't smoke dope.
Talk of the Nation was discussing the picture of Michael Phelps and the bong. I wasn't aware of the picture until today. Many people called into the program saying they didn't think this was a big deal, Phelps was just being a 23 year old at a party. I think it is a big deal. Phelps was and is a phenom especially for young children. By accepting all the sponsorships and creating a foundation, he has, whether he likes or not, become a role model for young children. As one caller stated, "we would be up in arms if one of our children's teachers was caught smoking weed. Shouldn't we hold a role model, such as Phelps to the same standard?" I don't think I'm a Phelps Phan anymore.

When I heard about his little adventure I first thought it was a joke. I bet his Mum ( his biggest fan and inspiration) gave him an earfull. In the end he is the one who looses out. So sad that we can't rely on athletes to be the role models we hope for.
Hopefully this is the end of his stupidity and not the beginning.
