Listening In

Wes was joking with me the other day about what a good eavesdropper I was. I adamently protested that I am not an eavesdropper. I can't help it that people speak loudly and I happen to hear what they say! It's not like I am going to the wall with a glass to hear what the neighbors are saying.
I'm at the airport and am reminded at how loudly people speak on their cell phones. It's like they want everyone to hear about their cat that is scared of coyotes. Or what about the guy that tells us all about his fantastic business meeting and his entire intinerary. That's not eavesdropping...right?
Wes teases me, but he likes to hear about the stories I listen in on. Once we were hiking in Yosemite. While he was exploring to see if there was more to hike, I was eating my lunch and hearing about a couple that had met for the first time the night before. The hike must have been their "getting to know you" phase of the relationship. That's when the women broke it to the man that she had herpes. According to the shock and awe in his voice, that was one "getting to know you" detail he wished he would have had about 24 hours prior.
Maybe I am the only listening in-er out there, so pardon me that you are speaking loudly. But if it is entertaining, speak up. Wes likes a good story!

I am a listen-in-er too. This girl, probably about 18 yrs old, on the train the other day was chatting with her friend on her cell phone about how she had caught her mom the night before reading her text messages at 3 a.m. Her mom gave her a lame excuse about tripping and falling on the floor and pulling her phone off the charger at the same time. Made me laugh.
