I have had the urge to travel away somewhere lately. It doesn't help that so many people I know are going on such cool trips like Austrailia, a Mediteranian Cruise, Spain, etc. etc. I can't believe that it has been 4 years this month since Wes and I did our month long backpacking trip in Europe. We loved Greece! We stayed in this cute little hotel that was nestled in the middle of a typical Athenian neighborhood. Around the corner from our lodging was a great family owned and operated Gyro diner where we ate each evening we spent in Athens. As we at our gyros and french fries we watched the neighborhood kids play soccer in the street. About 9pm every evening the kids moms and dads would start yelling from the window that it was time to come in. It was so great! We were reminiscing on our Europe trip over the weekend and got a craving for Greek Gyros. In Fort Myers we were lucky enough to live only blocks aways from an authentic Greek restaurant where we could get a good gyro any time. It has been harder to find one in Sacramento. This weekend I found a recipe that is pretty close to the real thing and quite easy to make. I'll post the recipe for those that want a good gyro. The only thing missing was our after dinner snack of the Greek chocolate bar-The Ion!5.20.2008
