Ode to April 16th

For those of you who think that April 16th is just another day, I will have you know you are wrong! As a child April 16th represented the day I got my dad back from the deep, dark pit of the tax accountant world. When you live with an accountant "tax season" is like the dark ages. Nothing is allowed to happen except work-no births, deaths, marriages, school plays, family outings etc. 12:01 on April 16th is the beginning of an exciting revolution. The days seem longer, the accountant comes home at normal hours, normal activities of life can resume, gardens are grown, playing catch with my dad and brothers in the front yard is reinstated. Every year my dad claims he won't go through the torture of tax season again, but every year we find ourselves loudly shouting our Ode to April 16th.

isn't if funny how the day can still mean so much to you even though you haven't lived with your parents for a long time?
